Labor Day brought pleasant temperatures in the 70's with the rain holding off until the end of the parade. The largest Labor Day Parade in the state this was Newtown, Connecticut's annual 58th parade themed, “Volunteers Keeping Our Community Strong,"

Grand Marshal Bill Halstead rode in a classic convertible with his grandchildren Emma Guilfoil, Ryan Halstead, and wife Debbie Aurelia Halstead. Halstead has been chief of the Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Company since 1978, and a member of the department since 1965.

Beryl Harrison was winner of the Legend & Pioneer Award. This award is given to a longstanding community member whose services have gone above and beyond. She rode in a black antique car, and carried a bouquet of flowers.

For Newtown's First Selectman Dan Rosenthal this was an extra special day as it was also his birthday. Joining Dan in the parade were his wife Meri, and children, Emily, and Ben. Political dignitaries marching nearby were Governor Ned Lamont, LT Governor Susan Bysiewicz, State Senator Tony Hwang, US Senator Richard Blumenthal, US Congresswoman Johanna Hayes, and State Treasurer Shawn Wooden.

Parade judges located in the Grand Stand in front of My Place restaurant were Jennifer Chaudhary,, Janet Knapp, , Alex Rankin, Shannon Will, Charlie Rankin, and Kris Schwartz.

Newtown's 2nd Company Governors Horse Guard received much applause as did their well trained, and beautiful horses.

Thank you to the organizers and supporters of this wonderful event!
