On this very hot May 29th the Troopers prepared the horses for travel at the 2nd Co. Governor's Horse Guard headquarters in Newtown, CT. Led by LTC Steven deFriesse they departed for Brookfield, CT where they readied the horses to ride in the Memorial Day Parade.
The parade sponsored by the Brookfield Lion's Club was proceeded by a ceremony in honor of those who have died serving our country. The M.C. of the event was James (Jay) Purcell of the Brookfield Police Dept. Rev. George O'Neill of St Joseph's Church in Brookfield spoke, followed by State Rep. Stephen Harding, and First Selectman Stephen Dunn. As two veterans placed a wreath at the foot of the memorial and lowered the American flag to half staff renditions of "Taps", and "Amazing Grace" could be heard. Bagpipers were the Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums of Danbury, CT.
Following the parade the Troopers and horses did a Meet and Greet in front of St Joseph's Church giving the parade attendees a chance to meet the horses of the 2nd Co.
