The first Open House held in two years was a resounding success for The 2nd Company Governors Horse Guard. The event took place on the  beautiful grounds and headquarters of the Horse Guard in Newtown, CT.

There was something for everyone with a thrilling horse/rider barrel competition as they raced around the barrels for the fastest time.

Rising Starr Horse Rescue based in Wilton, CT brought two beautiful miniature ponies available for adoption, or sponsorship. No one could resist petting two year old Cleo the mom, and her six month old baby Stitch who was born May 13th.

Newtown Bridle Lands Association which is a non-profit volunteer organization was there to provide information to anyone who might be interested in joining. Their goal is to foster an interest in horseback riding, and preserve and protect trails used for riding and hiking.

The 2nd Company Governors Horse Guard's very impressive, and informative historical display was the premier public viewing.  This display six months in making was due to the efforts of  Horse Guard member SGT Chapman. He also provided an 1860 Civil War desk where visitors could try their hand at calligraphy the old fashioned way.

Thanks to the Troopers who were hard at work cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs!

Also thanks to all the Police Cadets who handled the parking, then later modeled some of the historical Horse Guard uniforms.

Horse Guard Troopers Rameo; Barkowski, Rosa;  Viets; Burton; Cypher; Paine; and Ruenhorst impressed the crowd with their drill demonstration. Troopers Rameo; Barkowski, Rosa;  Viets; Burton; Cypher performed their famous Musical Ride.

The kids enjoyed old fashioned games, face painting and magic tricks by magician Dave Mirto. Of course we can't forget the all time favorite, pony rides for the kids.
